A Devotional on Peace

“Let the King’s peace be the deciding factor of your hearts; that's what you were called to, within the one body and be thankful.” Colossians 3:15

Have you ever taken a moment to pause and notice your thoughts? We have been given the unique ability to observe our own thinking through the power of the mind. Regardless of what is happening in the world around us, we have the ability to choose to believe God’s promises of peace and fight against fear.  We can be led by the spirit and walk in confidence knowing that we can trust in God. Reacting in love and from a deep place of security improves our relationships and our physical and mental health even in the most difficult situations.

The next time you are feeling overwhelmed, instead of running directly to your favorite food or beverage distraction, breathe, take a moment to observe your thoughts, and remind yourself of the verse above. Choose to stand firm in the Lord’s promise of peace.

For further study, I recommend reading Psalm 26:3-4, Matthew 6:33-34 and Romans 15:13.

Dear heavenly father,

You are so good and so faithful. Thank you for giving us the gift to be able observe our own thoughts. I ask that you alone will be who I listen to in my mind. Please help me to choose to believe your promises even when things are hard.

Amen.
