A Devotional: Brain Health & Spiritual Health

The Importance of Taking Care of Your Brain for Your Mental, Spiritual and Physical Health

“Do not conform to the pattern of his world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will his-his good pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

You may have heard the term “emotional eating.”  But, have you ever stopped to consider the role that your brain has in your emotions? God has designed such an intricate organ that controls the rest of our body.

In Ephesians 6:17, Paul calls us to put on the helmet of salvation. It is responsible for protecting the control center of the body- our mind! 1 Thessalonians 5:8 refers to the helmet as protecting the “hope of salvation.”

Knowing that we are saved by the blood of Jesus gives us 100% assurance that we belong to God. Knowing whose we are and believing God’s promises will help us ward off lies and negative thinking. In our journey of freedom from disordered or overeating, it is vital that we engage in understanding what is good for our brain health.

Understanding how our brain works and what keeps it healthy will motivate us to see how our daily food choice and choices of thinking make a massive impact in our mental health. We have an amazing opportunity to improve our brain health through the choices we make every day!

Dear Lord, thank you for the hope I have in you! I also thank you for my brain and the ability to control my mind. Help me to steward this gift moving forward. Amen.

"Your brain is the organ of your personality, character, and

intelligence and is heavily involved in making you who you are." ~ Dr. Daniel Amen

“You have power over your mind-not outside events. Realize this and you will find strength.” Marcus Aurelius

“God has given us more than fourteen billion cells and connections in our brain. Why would God give us such a complex organ system unless he expects us to use it?” Dr. Ben Carson
