Comfortably Uncomfortable | A Devotional

Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be nature and complete not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4

The Bible shares incredible stories of those who endured hardship and became more like Jesus. The Apostle Paul was able to allow God to become his strength during his weakest moments. In our modern culture being “weak” is looked down upon. But, how exciting is it that God promises to be our strength in areas that we fail or are weak? It is an avenue for God to be glorified.

As we persevere we will develop and grow us into the likeness of Jesus! Many times the trials of life create an environment that is contemptuous and uncomfortable. As we press into God through the tension of life’s trials, incredible growth will occur, lives changed and testimony birthed.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for allowing us to become more like you.  Thank you for your example of perfect suffering. I pray that I like you can suffer beautifully and grow in to becoming just like you. In Jesus name –Amen

“We can see hope in the midst of hopelessness. We can see peace in the midst of chaos. We have a hope that the world does not have. We can see clearly that all things work together for the good of them that love him and are called according to his purpose.” Pricilla Shirer

“But God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are afraid to put ourselves in situation where we will be in trouble if he doesn’t come through.” Francis Chan

“Have you ever wondered why God goes to the trouble of sanctifying us? He could instantly zap us into His image the moment we decide to follow Jesus…but sure enough, He rolls up His sleeves, puts palms to the dirt, and begins putting the pieces of our lives together in a way that matters.”
