You Are Not Alone | A Devotional
“You rescue the humble but you humiliate the proud. You light the lamp for me. The Lord, my God lights up my darkness. In your strength I can crush an army with my God I can scale any wall.” Psalm 18: 27-29
In the Bible, King David called out to God when he was in difficult times running away from Saul. It was in these moments where it seemed like he was the closest to danger that he reached out to the Lord earnestly continually. The Psalms are full of moments of sadness, fear, joy, anger, gratitude and so many other emotions. David always moved towards God even in His difficult emotions. And God always was there to comfort him and protect him.
In the moments before he slew Goliath, He knew that God would not only be his protector but would equip him with the strength needed to defeat his enemy. When David kept a heart that was in humble pursuit of God and stayed in a position of dependence on God, God provided him comfort and victory.
It was in the times when David was too comfortable and entitled that he became prideful and sinned. He stayed distant from God and tried to ignore reality and hide away.
As we walk on the path towards freedom, it is vital that we stay humble in the process and always remember that God invites us to come towards Him regardless of what we are facing. He reminds us that it is He who delivers us and is our strength. The moments that you want to give up, lean into him and follow him to give you the comfort and strength needed to move towards hope and freedom.
Dear Lord, thank you for being with me in my darkest times. I pray that you will continue to search my heart and show me any ways I am holding onto pride or entitlement. Thank you for your promise to be there and light my path. Amen.
