A Devotional: The Love of The Father

“Let us have a feast and celebrate! For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!” Luke 22:24

It is such a beautiful picture to see the father in the story of the prodigal son. He is so joyful generous and gracious to his son! The son had squandered his portion of the inheritance and ended up eating with pigs. It is never too late to surrender, move past our pride and repent.  The son pushed past the shame of his poor choices and in humility was able to face his father. He accepted the forgiveness from his father embrace resulting in a new beginning.

As we take the active steps to eat healthy and exercise we will see the rewards! God’s unfailing love is the vehicle that allows us to overcome our issues with overeating. This is truly a reason to celebrate!

Let us always give back to others the love and generosity we have been given by God. The older brother in the story was bound by his judgement and anger. He felt that he had done everything right and believed his brother did not deserve the celebration. His obedience and actions did not make his father love him more. The love of the father was not dependent on the actions of either son.

As we see the changes in our bodies, minds, hearts and souls through this journey of recovery and freedom from overeating let us use our experience to help others and extend the love and truth we have been shown to anyone we meet!  What joy and freedom we have!!!! For freedom Christ has set us free!
